A gift for one is a gift for many,
And a gift for someone you care about is a gift-a-plenty.

The sky had darkened now and the first flecks of snow drifted down from the heavens to land gently on the dry hard ground. There was now surely no doubt that winter was here, the crisp cold had been in the air for a time now after all. Something in the sky had opened this day and released what quickly became a heavy but gentle blizzard.
Somewhere up high under the snows fall sat a grand cabin; two floors and discrete, far enough away from the local ski resort to have peace but near enough that if you gaze with binoculars you can see it. The cabin was made of solid wood in traditional design and within it's strong oak door lay a great room with wooden walls adorned with beautiful wooden picture frames containing many a different image and in the spirit of the holidays there were lines of tinsel pinned high on the walls and the occasional festive ornament hanging from a hook; with a stocking pinned to each side of the mantle of the beautiful open wood fire with it's many ornaments atop it. Even the traditional wooden staircase with its classic banister had tinsel weaving in and out of its posts. It truly was a festive sight and oh-so-cosy in these winter evenings.

As the snow now sat two feet deep on the ground – and growing – the cabins owner had hurried home after a long Saturday afternoon at work; getting in the cabin door and brushing the snow from her shoulders and stomping her feet as she closed the door behind her. She removed her coat, hanging it on the coat rack by the door revealing her outfit; a pair of medium blue jeans, a thermal violet jumper with a fur-collared beige body warmer on top and a nice fluffy cream scarf. She next removed her matching cream hat – hanging it too on the coat rack – letting her golden brown hair flow from it's woollen confines and reveal her sweet blue eyes before using her hand to rub the last of the snow from her soft beige winter boots. Her vacation was supposed to have started by now but she had had to rush back to work when an important issue came up and it seemed no one else was able to fix the problems they had made when taking over her work; but it was over now and she could finally relax the weeks away in her vacation cabin, absolutely sure that with the change in weather that even if they needed her there was no way she could make it back to work, ergo she was safe to rest. It was cold in here, she needed some heat to cuddle up for the evening – at least she did not have to worry about dinner since the work had graciously ordered in as a thank you for pulling their employees in on the weekend. Still she was glad to get away; this is not how she'd wanted to start her vacation. She removed her scarf, putting it atop the cabinet near the door and made her way across the open-plan living and dining area to get down on her knees by the fire and taking the lighter from the side along with some fire starter blocks she got to work on the desired fire.
The wood fire finally took life as she rubbed her hands and prepared to settle down for the evening a smile on her face, so glad she had taken the time to go to this quaint little cabin on the outskirts of the Tannersville ski resort, away from New York for a time and a rest from her busy tired life. She adjusted her fur-necked body warmer as she stood and rubbed her arms to let the heat flow back into her body. Next was a trip to the kitchen to make some hot cocoa with marshmallows before she would cuddle up on the sofa. Whilst making the cocoa and humming softly to herself, she took an inkling and decided to check her cupboards for a snack; ah. A bag of pretzels, perfect! She smiled greatly to herself as she took the bag and the now fresh made cocoa to her favourite chair by the fire and put her legs up on the footstool, cup snug in both hands. She raised the cup to her lips slowly, gave a gentle blow and tilted it slightly to take a sip – when there was a great thump sound outside that made her jolt; the cup flying from her hands and sliding across the floor, spilling everywhere whilst the bag of pretzels fell by the feet of her chair.
“Ohhhhh- crud!” she called in frustration as she tried not to yell profanity as she got to her feet to clean to mess, but as she grabbed a tea towel from the attached kitchen to wipe up, she heard another noise from outside that caused her to pause and glance through the window by the door; staring...silent.

There was a blue glow; then nothing.

She cautiously made her way towards the window, keeping bent low to avoid being obvious. As she neared the window she saw a silhouetted figure rise and stand there with great poise. It made her freeze. Then as if they knew she was there – she saw them point out something long and slim towards the window; maybe a stick? Or it could just as easily be their arm; it was hard to see through the ice laced windows and the snow that was still falling outside.
But the figure didn't move, at first, until they fell to the ground and all was silent again. She paused, waiting cautiously encase it was some kind of trick. But nothing happened, she started to worry. She didn't waste time with a coat, left the mess on the floor and hurried out the door.

It was a man!

The snow was still falling but even then she could see him clearly; cool pale skin, his eyes were closed, shoulder length slick ebony hair, he looked slightly malnourished – but that clothing...it seemed medieval but futuristic at the same time, she couldn't place it. She had to get him inside before he froze to death; she could swear his skin was already going blue. She slowly reached out and took his arms, she wasn't strong enough to lift him but she could drag him carefully in the snow and hopefully without hurting the man. She put all her strength into getting him inside as quick as possible.
Door closed and with the man laying by the fire with a blanket over him she was able to not only clean up the snow that was dragged in but also the mess the cocoa had made – being sure to collect all the astray marshmallows from across the floor. Once all was cleaned up and the cloth tucked neatly into the hamper she decided to check on her – if she could call him such – guest. She knelt by his side as she looked at him; the warm glow of the fire reflecting lightly off of his pearlescent skin, but he was clearly warming quickly and there certainly was sot even the slightest blue-tinge to his skin anymore; a great sign. She could see his chest slowly heaving so could be sure he was breathing; such a relief. However she still wasn't sure if he was warm enough due to the lack of colour on his face, she slowly reached out a hand to touch the back of it to his forehead.
His eyes were open in an instant and in the blink of an eye his arm had moved and he had grabbed her firmly by the wrist; preventing her from touching him as his piercing emerald eyes looked deep into her own.
